Silk Lace: March 2010 Archives
Several months ago, I decided my mother needed a fancy lace shawl out of 3 skeins of our silk lace. We found a local knitter who was happy to help us out and she spent the next three months knitting the most amazing shawl.

This photo does not do the project justice, but I am not a skilled enough photographer to show this shawl in all its glory. The colorway is one of my mom's favorites: Aurora Borealis and the pattern is Frost Flowers and Leaves from Gathering of Lace
.
I admit I was a little worried that the variegation of Aurora Borealis would detract from the pattern, but it actually doesn't at all. Instead, the shawl glows from the various colors and they meld together quite harmoniously.
My mother is thrilled and I'm pleased she has an heirloom shawl hand-knit out of our silk lace. I think every mother deserves one, even if you knit it for yourself.
